Utah’s Nuclear Industry is About to Blow Up
Nuclear power makes people worry because of its history. Thoughts of Chernobyl and what happened in Fukushima in 2011 during the tsunami and earthquake makes us worry. Governor Cox has a different mindset when it comes to nuclear energy.
Governor Proposed $20 Million to Explore Nuclear Energy
Operation Gigawatt was proposed by Governor Cox of Utah to increase the state's production of power. This would include increasing the capacity of transmission lines, geothermal power, and exploring nuclear power generation.
In the video above the governor says nuclear power is far better than it was in the past. It is also good for the environment. "If you’re an environmentalist and you’re not pro-nuclear, I cannot take you seriously,” said Cox in the clip.
Plan to Upgrade Utah’s Ability to Create Power
In January, the Governor further outlined what he calls an “ambitious plan for Utah’s prosperity”. It was part of his State of the State address, and he outlines his vision which includes “energy abundance”.
This refers to his Operation Gigawatt. Utah is already leading the world with the development of geothermal energy. This would also include exploring nuclear energy and goes along with the focus of the new Administration to produce in America.

What will this look like? We will have to see as they pour resources into this research, but I would expect Utah to get into the nuclear energy business in the near future.
