What? Attractive Utah State Capitol Building Can Be Rented For This Private Event
Utah's state capitol building is beautiful to look at with its massive walls and columns made from granite hauled out of Little Cottonwood Canyon. It is the kind of place you would like to hold a special event like a wedding. Turns out, you can.
Designed in 1911, Utah’s Capitol Building is a Tribute to Democracy
It wasn’t easy getting a building for the state government to meet in Utah. Conflicts between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the federal government in Washington had been thorny.
When they finally did get it approved, it was slowed down by a bad economy. It wasn’t truly finished until the early 2000s, but the result is a majestic edifice overlooking the Salt Lake Valley.
You Can Hold Your Wedding at the Capitol
Finding the right venue for a wedding is important. What could be better than a symbol of strength and compromise with soaring roof lines and solid rock balconies featured in Utah’s capitol building.
Turns out, you can rent it for your nuptials. On the capitol website they show several parts of the building you can rent out including the rotunda with the steps coming down. It will cost you a couple thousand dollars if I read it right.

You can also rent it for a dance or even a business meeting. I like that this is available for the public to use. It makes it feel like the people’s house. Just make sure it is your bride you are saying “I do” to and not some new tax legislation.
