This Utah Life Hack Will Rescue Your Wallet and Your Dignity While Tipping
Thanks to the flippable credit card machine, tipping has become an irritant to many of us shoppers. This simple trick will remove the awkwardness and save you money.
You finish your order and the cashier types the details into the white plastic module and then flips it so you can read the screen. Even though you have purchased something that did not take effort by the staff the screen screams, "Would you like to add a tip?" with several boxes containing percentages in them.
This Utah hack will enable you to skip this awkward moment. I know it is awkward because even local employees don't want to deal with the situation and say something like, "It should ask you a question and then you can tap your card." See even they don't want to admit that the machine is stubbornly requesting a tip.
This system has become so successful that businesses have gone crazy with them. The New York Post caught a salon whose machine asks for a 50, 70 and 90% tip. Now that is irritating.
Here is the hack, but it takes a bit of planning. Bring cash in the denomination you would like to spend on the tip, I suggest some ones. My son works for tips, so he likes to tip as a professional courtesy, and he usually carries a little cash.
There is that moment when you don't want to be cheap. You can feel it even if you don't feel pressured. but having cash allows you in, good conscience, to choose the "No tip" option because you know you are going to drop cash into the tip jar. It works like a charm. More often I get a thanks for the cash. Even if they don't see you leave the cash you know you did so you don't feel like a weasel.
