There is nothing like watching Old Faithful blow its steam in Yellowstone National Park. It is a long drive from Utah and there might be an easier solution. The Crystal Geyser near Green River Utah might be worth a visit.

Cold Geyser Explodes Like Soda Pop

This is called a cold geyser as it is a result of trapped CO2 in the ground water. As pressure builds, the geyser releases a spray of water. This is what is happening at the Crystal Geyser near the Green River.

It was made by mistake when a group was drilling a well to find oil back in the 1930s. They tapped this underground water source, and the built-up gas sent water and mud high into the air. It continues to go off periodically today.

Eruptions are Harder to Catch then Old Faithful

The Crystal Geyser shoots water out every 27 hours or so. It isn’t a regular occurrence. The best way to see it go off is to camp nearby and hope to catch it. It also hasn’t been as spectacular in recent years due to people trying to get it to explode.

Perhaps thinking they could get the geyser to go off or maybe shoot higher, people have been dropping rocks down the well. This has had the effect of making the water bubble up less rather than more.
