From Job Gloom to Growth Boom

If you graduated high school along the Wasatch Front a couple of decades ago, chances are you heard a familiar warning: good luck finding a job. I remember attending a summit in Provo as a brand-new high school graduate and listening to speakers describe a challenging local job market.

The feeling at the time was that blue-collar workers could still find opportunities, but college students and recent graduates faced stiff competition because of the influx of so many educated job seekers that were competing for the same positions.

A Different Provo Today

Fast forward to today, and Provo's story looks dramatically different.

A new economic report found that Provo led the nation in job growth over the past decade, with employment gains stretching across white-collar, blue-collar, and service-sector work.

The city's growth between 2015 and 2025 outpaced other communities nationwide, showing that opportunity has expanded well beyond a single industry.

More Than a College Town

For years, Provo's identity was closely tied to its universities and the constant flow of students entering the workforce. While education remains a major part of the city's character, the economy has apparently become much more diversified.

Provo: once a cautionary tale about too many job seekers chasing too few openings is now being replaced by a reputation for growth, opportunity, and economic momentum.
