How Fast Can The Presidential Motorcade Drive Through Utah

Apparently, the president could make it from Bear River to St. George in less than four and a half hours. Yea, that is driving, not in Air force one.

How Does that Math Out?

It is about 422 miles to cross the great beehive state vertically and if the beast can go near 100 miles per hour, which he was told it could as the weather swelled in Texas and they were wanting to get to Oklahoma, so I figure unless he needs to make pit stops, he could make it in under 4 and a half hours.

By the way their trip from Texas to Oklahoma flying around the speed of 100 mph might have been a record for the presidential limo.

Is it Legal?

Yes, it is for the president:

  • Secret Service has federal authority to disregard speed limits when protecting the president.
  • Utah law allows emergency and law‑enforcement vehicles to exceed posted limits when responding to emergencies or operating under official escort.
  • The motorcade is considered a federally protected emergency convoy, not a normal group of cars.

Is it Legal for You?

If you tried the same thing, Utah Highway Patrol would introduce you to:

  • A reckless driving citation
  • A court date
  • A very disappointed judge
  • And possibly a helicopter

So, unless you get elected in the near future, you might just have to stick to Utah's 80 mile per hour freeway speeds, which frankly are much faster than many of its sister states, hint hint California.
