Outdoors In Southern Utah: This Is How To Do It
The weather in Washington County from mid-October to late May gets really pleasant. It is a great time to explore the red cliff wilderness around us. If you aren’t one to rappel down one of the many slot canyons, one way you can enjoy the great outdoors in more comfort is by building a deck in your backyard.
A really nice deck can extend your home. It becomes a place to have dinner, sit and talk and watch sunsets. Include a wood or gas fire pit and you are now roasting marshmallows and making memories.
Right now, the price of lumber is low making creating that outdoor space more affordable. The price of lumber went way up a few years ago when everyone was stuck at home and doing home improvements during the pandemic. Now that inventory has increased, and the home improvements have slowed down.
Home Depot in St. George has 8 Ft. 2 x 4 listed for around $3.00. These low prices are reflected in all the building products. There are also many options for building a backyard deck from the traditional natural wood deck to the composite decking that doesn’t require as much maintenance.
There are also a few ways to hide the screws that hold it all together. This makes the outside deck as nice as the flooring you have inside. Add some comfy outdoor furniture and you are enjoying the pleasant Southern Utah weather every night.
It isn’t too difficult to do the whole thing yourself. My wife loves anything nautical, so I made a pier in the backyard with a basketball court as well. If I can do it, anyone can.
