OH NO! See How Truck Ended Under Water In Quail
Launching a boat or watercraft into a lake can be trickier than you think. Over the weekend this truck ended up in Quai Creek State Park along with the Jet Skis they were trying to launch. Here’s how a high school date turned into a rescue and what to learn from it.
Water Level and Algae Make the Ramps Slippery
A group of high school kids on a date were planning to launch some jet skis into Quail for the day. As they were backing the SUV to the water, the tires began to slip. It wasn’t in 4-wheel drive and because the water is high the ramp was steeper.
The tires began to spin and the SUV moved sideways and and off the ramp into the water. All those in the vehicle quickly jumped out of the windows. It must have been quite the site.
Luckily, there was someone there to pull the vehicle out and and they left it to dry out while they played on the lake. So, what happened afterwards. The SUV started and they were able to get the watercraft home.
The vehicle is having some electrical issues and has been taken to a mechanic. But, most importantly, the date continued and was a success.
Steps to Launching a Boat
This article about boating basics gives some tips for backing a boat into the water.
First, the author says to practice beforehand. Go to a parking lot and get a feel for backing a trailer.
Second, take your time when you reach the ramp. Scope it out for any obstacles or moss that might make it slippery.
Third, put it in 4-wheel drive if you have it. More grip is better. Then back it in until the tires hit the water. Don’t forget the parking brake when you get out to move the boat off.
