More Asteroids and Comets Coming Near Earth in the Near Future

There are a couple of comets that will be making their way through the solar system this fall. SWAN25B is a comet recently popped out from behind the sun, and they are still trying to understand what will happen to it and where it will travel. 

Better Equipment Making It Easier to Spot Comets and Asteroids 

Not only are there comets coming near earth, there are also asteroids that are making fly byes near our planet. It seems like the heavens are much more active lately, but it might have to do with better technology. 

The SWAN25B comet is named for the equipment that helped discover it. It is used to detect and map out hydrogen in the solar system and has been effective in locating the hydrogen in the comet tails. 

More Awareness of Interstellar Wanderers 

We are also paying more attention to these heavenly travelers making their way past our part of space. With a greater understanding of the impacts from asteroids in earth’s past has us watching for any possible impacts in the future. 

Having acknowledged those reasons for detecting asteroids and comets, it does seem like there is a lot more going on out there than we used to think. The video above by Stefan Burns is just one of many he has made tracking solar wind and heavenly bodies.

It is possible that this fall could feature some rarely seen events in the night sky. The fact that we just discovered a major comet traveling through the solar system is a little surprising.
