I love a good Christmas parade with cars and floats lit up with Christmas lights. There is one happening this weekend as part of Winterfest in La Verkin. The parade is Saturday, December 2nd at 6 p.m. and begins at 481 N Main St and runs south to the end of  Main. Even better, it ends with fireworks.

Meridee Johnson with La Verkin City talked to me about this year's events. “People love it because the fireworks are done right there,” said Johnson. “You feel like you’re in the fireworks.”

The Christmas Light Parade needs to be on your list of Holiday traditions. “It has kind of a hallmarky feel,” said Johnson. “I get told by so many people it is like you are in a Hallmark movie.”

Winterfest has grown every year, and this is the biggest yet with two days of festivities. There is an ugly sweater fun run on Friday. A Winterfest 10k at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Corn hole tournament, live nativity, tree lighting ceremony and Santa’s cookies and milk workshop. The full list of events can be found here.

“The best thing about Winterfest is that most of it is free,” said Johnson. “You can win a lot of prizes just by entering contests.”

The Corn Hole Tournament offers a $100 prize to the winner and the Winter Wee Ones cutest baby contest will have a prize for all contestants. You also want to join the Blizzard Bingo on Saturday. “It’s hundreds of dollars in prizes and you just have to sit there and play bingo,” said Johnson.

It all helps out a good cause of course. "The PTO for La Verkin Elementary puts on a winter carnival with train rides, sock skating and snowball fights," said Johnson. "All the money goes to the elementary school."

Winterfest in La Verkin is a great place for families or a romantic evening for two that feels like a movie. Don't miss it Friday and Saturday December 1st and 2nd.
