If I ever have a choice between

  1. Taking a nap and
  2. Doing anything else

10/10 I will choose to take a nap.

Okay except if I'm offered the choice of eating cookies, then I might eat the cookies.  But AFTER I eat those cookies, I'm definitely going to take a nap.

I guess you could call me a nap connoisseur.

Other people have hobbies like knitting, crochet, or volunteering for the homeless. I prefer to take naps.

So as a qualified nap fanatic, it got me thinking. I've taken a nap just about anywhere, but is there a place I can't take a nap?

SLEEPING ON THE TOILET: Legal.  And kinda gross.

But what about the car?  If I were to pull over on the side of the road and take a nap, would the cops give me any crap about it?  I had to find out.

So I immediately got to work. Just kidding. I took a nap. And then after that, I got to work and found that in the state of Utah, it's totally legal to take a nap in your car.

Utah's rest areas are there so weary drivers can take a nap any time, day or night.

However, if you're DRUNK and taking a nap in your car, you could get yourself into trouble.  If you're intoxicated and in the drivers' seat, you could be charged with a DUI even if the car's not running.

According to website SmartFinancial, "Even if you are parked in a perfectly legal spot, law enforcement may tap on your window just to make a welfare check on your condition. Always be polite, and always have your license, registration and auto insurance ID card ready."

So long story short, yes!  You can sleep in your car!

But if a Police Officer checks up on you, don't get on his/her case for waking you up.  They're just doing their job.
