Tragic Utah Cold Cases That Happened In The 1900s

Cold cases almost seem like a thing of the past because of the technology that is out now days, and in some ways they are.

Utah has many cold cases, one of the most popular being the disappearance of Susan Powell in the 2000s. However, there are some earlier cases that still stump the state that have been up for decades. Salt Lake City, Utah’s most prominent metropolitan area, is a place where cold cases are still unsolved.

Salt Lake City Cold Cases

According to the SLC Police Department website, there are three pages of cold cases ranging from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Many of the cases are young women and there is even an infant. All the cases are homicide related.

Anthony Adams

In November of 1978, the 25-year-old make was found in his apartment deceased and stabbed. He was known to be a member of “a local radical element”, the SLCPD archives stated.

Rachel Arenaz

A young girl in 1980 (16) was found in a ditch in SLC without clothes on approximately six months after her death. The body was so decomposed the medical examiner couldn’t find a cause of death at the time.

Celedon Archuleta

Another cold case during 1980 was that of a 76-year-old man found in his home by his son beaten to death. The home was ransacked, and a toolbox, gun, and an undetermined amount of cash was missing, the archives said.

Diana Ramires

Later in 1986, Diana Ramirez was found dead at her office at a family counseling center. Cause of death was stabbing. Ramirez was 34 at the time of death.

Efrain Ocampo

In 1988 nine-month-old Ocampo was taken to “address of occurrence” where the death happened by his parents, the archives said. First to a daycare center where he woke up “gasping for air” and was rushed to the Primary Children’s Hospital. The cause of death is known but is withheld for investigation reasons.
