Dressing up in a costume is a fun activity that makes Halloween one of my favorite holidays.  It is a chance to express yourself in a way that is seen as not being peculiar or extreme, as it is expected to dress up for the occasion.  The tradition started as way to hide children from evil spirits on the night they can most easily do harm.  It has since evolved into a fun activity where anyone can make believe they are a favorite character or clever play on words.  A fun example is that of a "Cereal Killer" wielding a plastic knife while being draped in breakfast cereals.
