Today, I Will Celebrate With The World
The reality of the morning was that I just didn't want to get up and come back to the workplace after a nice little break, or series of breaks over the holiday period. The party was over, the fun was done, and it was back to the dreary day to day routine that can sometimes wear a person down. Plus, there were all those people to be around, again.
Little did I know that karma left me one more holiday to celebrate on the 2nd day of the year, and it's not just a day I get to celebrate with the community, the state, or even the nation. No, I get to enthusiastically celebrate this day with the entire world.
Today is World Introvert Day.
Sandwiched comfortably between the chaos of New Year’s celebrations and the return to everyday routines, it’s the perfect time to honor those who prefer quiet corners over crowded parties.
Introverts are often misunderstood. They’re not necessarily shy or anti-social; they just thrive in the serene glow of their own company or the intimate company of a trusted few. While extroverts may throw confetti and blast music to celebrate, introverts might observe their day by curling up with a good book, journaling, or taking a well-deserved nap. I especially like the nap option.
The brilliance of introverts lies in their ability to turn solitude into creativity. Many of history’s great thinkers, writers, and inventors were introverts. If an extrovert invented the light bulb, it was probably an introvert who designed the cozy reading nook illuminated by it.
World Introvert Day is also a reminder to respect the sacred art of alone time. Don’t worry if your introverted friend doesn’t text back immediately. They’re likely recharging their social battery, not plotting your downfall. Well, in most cases.
If, like me, you’re an introvert, take today to indulge in your favorite solitary pastime guilt-free. If you’re an extrovert, why not celebrate by giving an introvert in your life the gift of space—or even better, a silent thumbs-up emoji?
So here’s to the quiet legends who listen more than they talk, who observe life’s beauty from the sidelines, and who prove that sometimes, the loudest voices are the ones we never hear.
Oh and if you're wondering when to come over for my World Introvert Day party and celebration, don't worry. I just cancelled it.
Happy World Introvert Day!
