New Year’s In Park City Can Break The Bank
Spending New Year’s Eve in the richest city in Utah sounds glamorous, sparkly, and very Instagram-worthy. It also sounds expensive, because it is. The title of “richest city” can technically belong to tiny places like Silver Summit, but for anyone who prefers a celebration with actual restaurants and fireworks, Park City is the clear stand-in. It boasts one of the highest average household incomes in the state and a long-standing reputation for luxury skiing, fine dining, and reminding visitors that yes, it really is ski season.
A Thousand Bucks For A Place To Sleep?
The biggest hit to the wallet comes from lodging. New Year’s Eve falls right in the heart of ski season, which means hotels and condos regularly charge several hundred dollars a night, even for fairly modest accommodations. Prices of $400 to $1,000 per night are common, and that’s before you start flirting with luxury resorts that come with heated pools, fireplaces, and the quiet realization that you could have paid rent for a month somewhere else.
Dinner is next. Many Park City restaurants ring in the new year with prix-fixe menus that feel festive and refined, complete with multiple courses and wine pairings. These dinners often start around $100 per person and can climb well past $200. If you want the full luxury experience, some high-end New Year’s Eve events push the price into the several-hundred-dollar range per person, promising champagne, live music, and bragging rights.
Add in transportation, drinks, and possibly skiing earlier in the day, and a single night of celebrating can easily reach $700 to $1,500 per person. Go big, and you can sail past that without much effort.

At that point, staying home with friends, a good bottle of something bubbly (sparkling cider in our house), and a countdown on television starts to feel less like settling and more like financial wisdom. After all, midnight still arrives whether you’re in Park City or on your couch. I don't know about you, but my couch has never charged me a resort fee.
