This weekend will be the final performances of Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella by the Cedar Valley Community Theatre. After opening on June 2nd, the last three shows will be this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella is a beloved musical adaptation of the classic fairy tale. With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Douglas Carter Beane, this enchanting production has captivated audiences for generations. It first premiered as a television special in 1957 and has since been adapted for the stage with several revivals and adaptations.

One of the key elements that sets Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella apart is its timeless music. The score features beautiful and memorable songs such as "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible/It's Possible," and "Ten Minutes Ago." These songs add depth and emotion to the story, allowing the characters to express their hopes, dreams, and aspirations.

The story follows the familiar tale of Cinderella, a young woman mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters, who dreams of attending the royal ball. With the help of her fairy godmother, Cinderella is transformed into a vision of beauty and grace, capturing the heart of the prince. However, true to the spirit of Rodgers and Hammerstein, the musical also explores themes of kindness, forgiveness, and the power of love.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella has seen several adaptations and revivals throughout the years. In 1997, a television adaptation starring Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her fairy godmother brought the magic to a new generation of viewers.

The stage adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella premiered on Broadway in 2013, starring Laura Osnes as Cinderella and Santino Fontana as the prince. This production introduced new songs and revised the book to enhance the storytelling and bring a fresh perspective to the beloved tale.
