From SUU To PA Western University: Dr. Jon Anderson’s Presidential Journey
Dr. Jon Anderson, currently serving as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Southern Utah University (SUU), has been unanimously selected by the Board of Governors for Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education to take on the role of President at Pennsylvania Western University, effective July 1, 2024. This appointment marks a new chapter in Anderson's distinguished career in academia, characterized by significant contributions to institutional development and academic excellence.
Anderson's tenure at SUU, which began in May 2020, has been marked by notable achievements. He spearheaded SUU's response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, chairing the university's task force and facilitating the safe return of students to campus in fall 2020. Under his leadership, SUU established two new colleges and implemented a targeted strategy to enhance student retention, reflecting Anderson's commitment to academic innovation and student success.
His impact extended beyond administrative responsibilities, as Anderson actively participated in the recruitment and hiring of over 120 full-time faculty members and played a pivotal role in the development of approximately 100 new academic programs, including the university's inaugural doctoral program in Clinical Psychology. Additionally, Anderson contributed to the academic community through his teaching of undergraduate and MBA courses, enriching the educational experience for students.
Reflecting on his time at SUU, Anderson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to such a distinguished institution and emphasized the importance of collaboration and shared vision among faculty and staff. Prior to his tenure at SUU, Anderson held various academic leadership positions, including Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Middle Georgia, where he demonstrated his ability to integrate academic and support services across multiple campuses. Anderson's academic journey includes roles such as deputy provost, associate vice president of academic affairs, accreditation liaison, associate dean, and director of the MBA program at the University of West Georgia.
With a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Kentucky and a wealth of experience in academic administration, Anderson brings a diverse skill set and a strong commitment to excellence to his new role at Pennsylvania Western University.
