Iron County School District to Host Patriotic Music Event on July 4th
Despite school being out for the summer, Iron County School District leaders are hard at work preparing for a special community event and the upcoming school year. Superintendent Dr. Lance Hatch and Communications Coordinator Shauna Lund joined the Big Picture Morning Show on KSUB radio to share details about a unique Independence Day celebration and ongoing district projects.
Dr. Hatch announced a patriotic musical program titled This Country, taking place July 4 at Canyon View High School. “There is one genre of music that stands out when it comes to patriotism and that's country music,” he said. “We're going to be using eight different country music songs to honor our country and celebrate our country.”
The free event will include two performances—one at 2 p.m. and another at 4 p.m.—in the air-conditioned Canyon View High School auditorium. While admission is free, attendees are encouraged to make donations to the Iron County School District Foundation. “We will have some QR codes available where people can just scan and they can donate,” Hatch said.

Dr. Hatch himself will perform in the band alongside Iron County School District employees and two Canyon View High students. “We've been working on it for, I don't know, four months. We've been trying to put a good show together for the community,” he said.
The performance will be interwoven with short patriotic stories and videos, including a clip from President Ronald Reagan. Lund explained that the event supports the foundation’s mission to fund innovative classroom projects and scholarships. “We've had a teacher who raised trout in her classroom… and taught the kids the cycle of a trout,” Lund said.
Looking Ahead To The Next School Year
Looking ahead to the school year, Hatch noted progress on facilities, including a new field house at Parowan High School and construction at East Elementary. He also shared his recent experience teaching every fifth-grade class in the district about the preamble to the U.S. Constitution.
“We're excited about being able to provide this show,” Hatch said, “to help [the community] feel the love of country.”
