It's been a fun 2024 for St. George 8 year old, Hendrix Lay. He saw a flyer at the St. George Rec Center about a "Hoop Shoot", and he told his parents he wanted to compete. He did compete... and he won! He's beat out kids his age, then kids around town, then kids across Southern Utah, and last weekend he won the entire championship for the state of Utah!

attachment-IMG_0605
loading...

Last weekend in Provo, Utah, Hendrix sunk 21 of 25 free throws clinching his first Utah State Championship title, a feat he'll remember for life. This Saturday, February 24th is Hendrix's 9th Birthday, but he'll be celebrating a little differently this year. Not only is Saturday his birthday, but it's also his next big competition in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hendrix will be competing against a handful of kids that won their respective State Championships. We'll see kids from the Western United States like Hawaii, California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Arizona, and of course, Hendrix representing Utah.

Hendrix, the other State Champions, and their families will be put up in a hotel this Friday night in Las Vegas, with bowling and a pizza party to celebrate their big accomplishments. Hendrix and the other children will receive their very own custom sweatsuit at the party as well. Saturday morning, at a Las Vegas high school, the kids will compete and the winner will punch their ticket to the National Championship in Chicago, Illinois. If Hendrix makes it to Nationals, and WINS Nationals, his picture will be up with his name at the  Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

attachment-IMG_0607
loading...

Speaking to Hendrix tonight he told me "Guess how many free throws I made in a row today? 51!" When asking Hendrix if he's nervous, he always tells you "A little. But I like the pressure!" Well, the pressure is indeed on for Hendrix this weekend in Las Vegas, but we're all pushing for him and believing in him!

attachment-IMG_0606
loading...

Hendrix comes from a basketball family, too! His Grandpa, Steve Hoagland, was a high school and college standout, playing his college ball at Southern Utah University. Hendrix's Dad, JC, and Grandpa, Cole, each played ball for the Dixie Flyers. Hendrix's Great Grandpa Don is past Dixie Flyers Baseball and Basketball coach Don Lay. He won 3 State Championships with the Dixie Flyers in the 1970's, and the baseball field is appropriately named Don Lay Flyer Field. Coach Lay would be over the moon to be watching Hendrix today, but we're sure he'll be watching the Hoop Shoot from the other side.

A new restaurant is coming to St. George and some aren't surprised to learn it's a chicken restaurant. Apparently, in St. George, we have an influx of Soda Shops, Cookie Shops, Car Washes, and Chicken Restaurants. This new place looks pretty intriguing though.

One thing I don't love about their sauces is that you have to pay for them... WHAT?! $1.00 for ranch with my chicken?! Not a fan of that! Hopefully those are just ADDITIONAL sauces, instead of just sauce in general.

BEER MENU:

On HHC's website, they post about their craft beers. I'm not POSITIVE if the St. George location will be serving beer or not (Because St. George, ya know), but possibly!

Houston's Hot Chicken will be located in the past location of Crack Shack off Bluff Street and Black Ridge Drive behind the Maverik. Their address is 1216 South Bluff Street in St. George.

WHEN WILL HOUSTON'S HOT CHICKEN BE HERE?

According to their website it appears their grand opening date is March 9, 2024. We're less than a month away from Houston's Hot Chicken in St. George!

Instead of whining about ANOTHER chicken restaurant coming to town... Let's give this once a chance. If you don't love it after trying it, that's fine. But we should stop shaming restaurants and new businesses BEFORE we've even tried them out.

Seriously Southern Utah... Where Is Macin Smith?!

Untitled design - 1
MacinSmith.com
loading...

Believe it or not, it's been over 8 years since 17 year old Macin Smith disappeared from his St. George home and never returned. Macin was a senior at Desert Hills High School. When Macin didn't return home from school, it was discovered that Macin didn't go to school, or even get on the bus that morning!

MacinSmith.com
MacinSmith.com
loading...

MACIN'S LAST NIGHT AT HOME:

Macin was a big fan of Anime, style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at adults. It was common for Macin to be up all night watching Anime on his phone or iPad, so his parents would usually unplug the wifi router at night time to ensure Macin would actually go to sleep. That night, the router was not unplugged and around 1:30am, Macin's dad got up to check on him. He discovered Macin was in his bed watching Anime. His dad, Darrin, took the phone and iPad and told Macin to go to sleep. The next morning, they could hear Macin getting ready for school. It felt like a normal day until Macin didn't return home. Macin's parents, Tracy and Darrin, phoned St. George Police and filed a Missing Persons Report. They were thinking (and hoping) that Macin was angry about having his iPad taken and was "blowing off steam" and would return home later. He never did.

Macin didn't take his phone or wallet when he left, which makes this case even more confusing. About a week or so later, Macin's mom and Aunt found a note tucked into Macin's wallet. That note has never been fully released to the public, but it has been stated that his Mom and Aunt believed he had committed suicide. His mom mentioned the note said he was "Done". However, that could mean many things! St. George Police believed MOST people that commit suicide leave the note out for the family to find, and don't necessarily hide it for people to see. The note was also not written to anyone in particular.

There have been many people who have claimed to have seen Macin, but still nothing official to confirm.

A POTENTIAL SIGHTING:

In 2018 at a Panda Express in West Valley, Utah, a man approached two women asking them for change to catch the bus. The two women both gave him change and he was on his way. Later, they learned of the Macin Smith case and were both adamant the man asking for change WAS INDEED Macin Smith. They even mentioned that the man had a speech impediment, which Macin DID have! Mason's mom, Tracy had the girls call Macin's phone to hear his voice on his voicemail, and they confirmed that voice was the one they heard from that man at the Panda Express. Panda Express' security cameras were not filming during the time.

MacinSmith.com
MacinSmith.com
loading...

SEARCH PARTY:

There have been SEVERAL search parties with horses and cadaver dogs searching around 50 square miles of Macin's home in St. George. Which leaves even more questions than answers. 50 square miles and STILL no sign of him?

DISAPPEARED ON MAX:

In 2017, there was an episode of Disappeared about the Macin Smith case. You can watch this show on MAX (formerly HBO). Macin's episode is Season 8 Episode 2. In the episode, Macin's Dad, Darrin mentioned that people believe he killed his son. Both Macin's parents took a polygraph test, to which they claim they passed. On the Disappeared Episode, they said St. George Police never confirmed if they passed or didn't pass and called it an open investigation still.

MY TAKE:

After over 8 years, I started to believe Macin wasn't alive anymore and that he probably committed suicide. However... After learning more about this case, my mind has changed. With NO SIGN of Macin or his remains within 50 square miles of St. George, I believe he is ALIVE. It seems strange that someone would go far away to commit suicide. If you were going to end your life, would you decide to hitchhike out of town first? Would you decide to walk 30 miles away THEN commit suicide? I don't believe someone would do that. The fact that NO REMAINS of Macin's have been found in the area, I believe he got away and is alive somewhere. But, why would Macin not return or call his mom after 8 years? Embarrassment? Fear of charges being pressed for disappearing? I don't know... But I don't believe Macin took his own life. I believe we will someday have answers to this wild cold case here in St. George, Utah!

People are PISSED! The Rock Just Said WHAT About Utahns?!

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was in town this weekend for WWE Smackdown at The Delta Center! The Rock has been known for his professional wrestling career that dates back to 1996. Many know his catchphrase "Can You Smell What The Rock Is Cookin'!?" Others know him from his acting career where he's reached the highest point of stardom anyone can reach. He's worth well over $250,000,000.

While in the ring at WWE Smackdown at The Delta Center, The Rock took the mic and congratulated the crowd in Salt Lake City. "The Rock has got some good news to share... tonight it is official you have broken an in-door attendance record, not for the city of Salt Lake, but the entire state of Utah. Congratulations. Here's the record you broke, you broke the all-time record for the largest gathering of trailer park trash The Rock has ever seen!"

Johnson continued to berate the crowd in Salt Lake, while being met with boos, "Are you sure you want to boo The Rock? Finally your life has meaning, finally you and your 50 wives will have a story to tell. You'll have a story to tell your 600 inbred grandchildren one day!"

The absolute obliteration of the crowd in Salt Lake City quickly hit online, while The Rock had a slight smile on his face. Now, was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson being serious about Utahns or was he playing into the show at WWE Smackdown? You know, they say 'every joke has grain of truth'.

It's Finally Happening! A 2nd In-N-Out Burger Is Coming To St. George!

loading...

I've been dreaming about this day for years now. An announcement has been made that a 2nd In-N-Out Burger is ALL but officially coming St. George! The 1st In-N-Out was brought to Telegraph in Washington in 2007. The lines were HOURS LONG for weeks, even months after that location finally opened up! Nearly 17 years later, we're finally going to get ANOTHER location here in St. George!

I've been very vocal about the necessity of another location on the other side of town for a while now, and while the new location will NOT be where I was thinking (Bluff Street in K-Mart Parking Lot), it's even closer to my home!

attachment-in n out del taco 2

The NEW In-N-Out Location in St. George is set to be coming to Exit 2 on the Southern Parkway exit next to the Terrible's Gas Station and diagonal across the street from Big Shots Golf! This location is awesome! It's right off I-15 for all the traffic coming North from Arizona, California, and Nevada.

This announcement was also confirmed to be on it's way from Macrae Heppler on his "What's Happening Here In Southern Utah" series. If you don't follow Macrae on Facebook, you should. He's always dropping "#MacBombs" about new construction, restaurants, stores, and more!

In Macrae's video, he also mentioned a third location of Del Taco hitting St. George, right next door to the In-N-Out Burger! This south end of town is absolutely blowing up, and I am THRILLED about it!

In a state where "Cookie Wars" are real things, and a new cookie shop will pop up all over town... I've found the place to get the BEST Sugar Cookie in all of Southern Utah! Move over Crumbl, move over Swig... Make way for The Sugar Cookie! The Sugar Cookie is located between Applebee's and Winger's here in St. George and these cookies are INCREDIBLE! They've been here for a while now, and if you STILL haven't tried them, you're really missing out!

I've only ever bought their mini's before, but they're perfect for parties or just for the whole family! You're not having to buy cookies that are big enough to be called "Cake". Plus, totally affordable too! But what I really love about these cookies are the ICING! It's soft and delicious. The flavor is not overly sweet. The cookies themselves are extremely soft too!

They've got tons of different flavors too! Flavors like...

  • Samoa
  • Red Velvet
  • Chocolate Cream Cheese
  • Double Chocolate
  • Chocolate Vanilla
  • Original
  • Orange
  • Cherry
  • Coconut
  • Lemon

New Roads WE NEED In St. George That Will Make Life EASIER!

attachment-ROADS ST. GEORGE NEED
loading...

I've been living in St. George my whole life. I know all of the shortcuts in town, and I know how to get places quicker than ANY of my friends. But after 32 years here in St. George, there are still some roads that are SO FRUSTRATING to be driving on! After all this time, we STILL don't have all the shortcuts that we need in town.

Here are the TOP 3 ROADS that we need here in St. George that will make our lives EASIER!

FLOOD STREET TO 400 EAST UNDER I-15:

This is my #1 shortcut that I would love to see here in St. George! I-15 has separated St. George for SO LONG! If I'm by Fiesta Fun, and I want to get on the other side of the freeway, it will take AT LEAST 10-15 minutes before I can get there. But the city could EASILY connect Flood Street and 400 East. The roads even match up on both sides. This one should be a no-brainer!

DIXIE CONVENTION CENTER TO SUMMIT ATHLETIC CLUB:

Google Earth
loading...

This road is actually CONFIRMED and happening! Macrae Heppler posted a video earlier today showing that this road is ABSOLUTELY going to happen, but it's going to be about 2 years until it's finally completed. It will take you from the Dixie Convention Center and pop out by Popeyes off River Road. This road is going to be AWESOME... But it will definitely be crossing through the Virgin River, so people might be upset about that.

FROM RIVERSIDE DRIVE TO MALL DRIVE BY DINO CROSSING:

Google Earth
Google Earth
loading...

If you ever take Riverside Drive around Foremaster, headed towards Dino Crossing... You've probably hit ALL that traffic on Riverside. You'll be backed up FOREVER if you're not careful, but wouldn't it be awesome if you could avoid that and shoot straight over to the Lin's on Mall Drive?! That's my idea with this one. It would alleviate traffic there, and make it a ton quicker to get into the Washington Fields!

Southern Utah's New Brunch Spot You've GOTTA TRY!

attachment-New Brunch Spot Silver Reef

My FAVORITE restaurant in town, Silver Reef Brewery shocked me recently with the news that they're now doing BRUNCH on Saturdays and Sundays. I was there for lunch a couple weeks ago, and they broke the good news to me, and I had to make sure that I came and tried it over the weekend! Brunch is served Saturdays & Sundays between 11am-1pm.

WHERE IS SILVER REEF BREWERY?

Silver Reef Brewery is literally out in B.F.E. It's located out in the industrial area of St. George on South River Road. It's literally such a hidden gem. The address is: 4391 Enterprise Drive. The building has a big "ST. GEORGE'S BEVERAGE" on it, and YES! It is an actual brewery inside!

attachment-IMG_0418

MY ORDER:

I ordered the Bacon Breakfast Burrito with the Breakfast Potatoes. It was MASSIVE! This burrito was absolutely not something I'd be able to pick up and eat with my hands. This was a fork & knife burrito! It was packed full of eggs, thick-cut bacon, and was topped with green chili sauce, chipotle aioli, and cheese. It was incredibly filling and had a little bit of kick with the chili and aioli, but was DELISH!

attachment-IMG_0421
loading...

Now, the Breakfast Potatoes... I don't even know how they cooked these things but they were so unique. They were definitely fried, but also soft, and seasoned really well. They weren't supposed to be the "Hero" of the dish, but they were so good, I wanted more!

Of course, I also had to order my FAVORITE MENU ITEM... The Club House Sandwich and fries. I only ate a tiny bit, but boxed it up and ate it for breakfast Sunday morning!

Earlier this week, I dropped by a place I've NEVER hear of: Silver Reef Brewery. It was in a weird location, out on the Fort Pierce Industrial area. REVIEW:

I ate SO MUCH FOOD! I even went back two days later, and brought my family with me. Everything I tasted was really great, and I mean that. This is a SUPER HONEST review! It's worth the drive! SO GOOD! The staff was nice and friendly, and they had football games on all the TVs. The restaurant was clean, as well!

MY FAVORITES:

Club House Sandwich: This was my favorite thing on the menu. It's so good, it's big and filling, and it's simple! Ham, Turkey, Bacon! I love simplicity!

Crispy Pepperoni Flatbread: I love pizza, but sometimes people don't do it well. This was PERFECT. It also had a hot honey drizzled on top. I wouldn't have thought those flavors go well together, but they REALLY, really do.

Cajun Chicken Sandwich: I usually don't love a chicken sandwich, but this one slapped! Topped with Gouda and bacon, but be prepared! It has a kick to it!

Pork Belly Bites: These came with lettuce to do a little wrap with it, but screw that. I ate them without the lettuce, and they were SO delicious. Great appetizer.

French Fries: Most everything we ate came with fries, and sometimes fries are just ehhh... But not at Silver Reef Brewery. DELICIOUS fries, and they come with fry sauce too!

THE VIBES:

The vibes at this place are awesome. Not only is it TOTALLY unique, but you can watch people brewing beer while you eat and watch a ball-game! You're eating RIGHT in the middle of a brewery. Totally awesome. The restaurant was clean, classy, and nice!

They're open 7 days a week from 11 a.m.-9 p.m., and the only place you can buy liquor on Sundays! No more having to drive to Mesquite!

Location:

Their address is 4391 S. Enterprise Dr. St. George, Utah, 84790. Located on the South side of River Road by Cox Trucking, and the Utah Food Bank.

Food Review: 10/10.

Likelihood of Going Back: 10/10.

PERFECT SCORE. This is my FAVORITE restaurant in town, and in my mind... The best restaurant in town, without a doubt.

Here's Where To Find The BEST RANCH DRESSING In Southern Utah!

Untitled design - 1
Canva

I'm a SLUT for Ranch Dressing! There's a huge community of us here in Southern Utah. We absolute DO NOT play around with Hidden Valley Ranch! However, Wild Coyote Ranch is pretty acceptable. But if you're looking for some INCREDIBLE Ranch Dressing in Southern Utah... Here are the places you'll find it!

Pizza Factory / Pasta Factory:

attachment-Screen Shot 2024-02-02 at 10.04.51 PM
loading...

Top of the list! Absolute number one is the ranch at Pizza Factory and Pasta Factory. It's absolutely unfair how delicious it is. It's not too thick or too thin, and always tastes fresh. It works with Bread, Salad, on pasta, literally anywhere you could even imagine! It's the best!

Wingers:

attachment-Screen Shot 2024-02-02 at 10.26.08 PM
loading...

Wingers Ranch is a thicker boy, but SO DELICIOUS! Every time I get Wingers I'm like Yo... Can I also get a pint of your ranch!? It's even better when the Wingers Amazing Sauce get's into the ranch. Plus: Have you ever dipped your popcorn in that Amazing Sauce + Ranch? SO GREAT!

Texas Roadhouse:

attachment-Screen Shot 2024-02-03 at 3.05.29 PM
loading...

I've always liked the ranch at Texas Roadhouse, but I would've never thought about adding them to this list until I started asking around. 100% of everybody that I asked put Texas Roadhouse Ranch on their list!

Slice House Pizza Co.:

attachment-IMG_1334
loading...
attachment-IMG_1338

Slice House Pizza Co. is located in the Outlets at Zion where the old Roy's Pizza was. This is one of my favorite stops for Pizza. But what's even better than their pizza is their ranch. It's such an amazing compliment to their pizza and cheese sticks. ALWAYS better with Ranch!

Denny's:

attachment-Screen Shot 2024-02-03 at 3.15.12 PM
loading...

I know... You're thinking I'm crazy right? But no! Denny's ranch actually slaps! I like to dip their burgers into their ranch, but what's even better is their Seasoned Fries dipped in ranch! Your life will be forever changed!

I'm always looking for more places with AMAZING ranch, so please... If I forgot any places that have the best ranch in town, please let me know!

Cedar City:

If ANYBODY on the show SCREAMS Cedar City... It's Bob. I don't know what it is about him, but I wouldn't be shocked AT ALL if he was actually from Color Country!

Sun River:

Sun River, absolutely is Johnny Rose! Very classy, older guy, always wears a suit... Probably not a swinger like SO MANY of the Sun River residents!

Little Valley:

Schitt’s Creek gif. Dan Levy as David bites his lip and nods quickly as he says, “That’s correct.”

Little Valley. David Rose. The Few, The Proud, The Little Valleyians. They know they're the best, they know they're better than all of us. That's ALL DAVID ROSE!

Look... I appreciate history. Especially the history of my hometown, St. George, Utah. Another thing I can appreciate... HOTTNESS! I will now be ranking the Hottest Mayors in the history of St. George, Utah.

If you also appreciate history and hottness, this list is for YOU!

(In no particular order)

1. Thomas Judd

He's a virgo, a father of 10, and a Bugle player in the Navajo Indian War. As if that's not enough to get him on this list... he also had a sexy British accent! Thomas was born in Chestershire, England, before making his way to St. George when he was 19 years old. You may recognize his name from his VERY St. George Famous store/restaurant that's still around today! Thomas Judd's Store Co., known simply as "Judd's".

#2. Karl Brooks

Karl was a REAL St. Georgian! Born here, passed here. But what gets him on the list of HOTTNESS is a couple things. 1. THOSE BABY BLUES! Check out those peepers, man! I'm a sucker for blue eyes, and he had great ones! 2. What's hotter than helping our community? Not much. Karl was Mayor for 12 years (1982-1994) and the city EXPLODED with him at the helm! St. George went from 7-square miles to 60-square miles and 10,000 in population to 50,000 in population!

#3. Bill Barlocker

What puts Bill on this list? Don't ask stupid questions! LOOK AT THOSE TEETH! This photo was taken in what? the 60's? Teeth in the 60's were usually like the Spice Girls: They're all different colors, and doing their own thing! Also... That hairline! I'm actually jealous of it. Guaranteed this dude never went bald. The teeth and hairline get Bill on this list with zero questions asked!

#4. Joseph Young

Did his photo give you a jump-scare? Me too. And that's HOT! He looks like he just hid a body somewhere on Pine Valley, but those eyes are piercing! Another great hairline, great eyes, full-on Amish beard, and those cheekbones? COME ON JOSEPH! Save some scary but sexy features for the rest of us. If you see Joseph in your dreams, it's either the best dream you've ever had, or the worst nightmare you've ever had, and there's no in-between.

#5.  Anthony Ivins

loading...

Before ANYTHING else... The dude is just hot. I'm jealous of the beard. I'm jealous of his hairline, and i'm jealous of his overall swag. He was born in New Jersey, made the trek across the plains as a 1-year old baby! That's SHOCKING that he even survived. That's HOT. Seven years later, he and his family made the trek to St. George to be one of the first families to ever live here. Plus... The city of Ivins is named after him! 100% HOT!

#6. Current Mayor: Michele Randall

loading...

She's the FIRST female Mayor in St. George history. THAT'S HOT! I'm a sucker for firsts, and that's a big one! Plus... the obvious! She's a babe and we all know it. But the biggest reason she's on this list has been her fight with cancer. She had her own battle with Breast Cancer and she's come out on top! My own mother had her battle in 2020, and Michele was there for her. It was VERY COOL and I've loved her ever since. She's also used her platform to encourage women to get their annual mammograms! And that's definitely HOT!
