IVR or Interactive Voice Response Defined

Interactive Voice Response is that service that automates your call with the power to ask you questions that will direct your call to specific area or service. If you have ever answered a robot question like "for inquiries about your service press 1", then you have tangoed with IVR. It is not a new service, but it has traditionally been expensive and hence reserved for big companies with big budgets and big phone directories.

How Has IVR evolved

The price and people power needed to set up and run an IVR system have come down significantly allowing smaller businesses to embrace this technology. Where you used to have a dedicated team to build and manage an IVR system there are now solutions that automate most of it for you and even programs that make the system as easy to use as a push of a button.

Will IVR Saturate Southern Utah?

Businesses will probably add this option as it becomes more accessible, but do you think we will see it popping up in different avenues? Teachers you could automate common questions, think, "Press 2 to get the final date to turn in your essay." Or grocery store workers, "Pleas press 3 if you are looking for a product we intentionally hid from you in the store."

How about Home IVR Service?

Talk about streamlining. You could have options like, "Press the pound key to find out when dinner will be on the table getting cold", "To plead your case to spend $200.00 or more press 9 and prepare to give a written argument". "If you are in need of a live person please hold until the end of my nap", could be really convenient.
