Huge Gift Given to Southern Utah Inspired By One Man’s Legacy

Yearly Event is a Chance to Give Back

Every year there is a golf tournament that raises money for Southern Utah charities that has a funny name, the Love Like Joe Golf Tournament. I asked Steve Stout why his charitable organization is named this way and he said it is after Joe Bowcutt who did so much for the community before passing away in 2019. 

“We had this deep desire to serve and be a contributing and valuable part of the community,” said Stout. “When Joe came along, he just embodied it, and defined it and he took it to a new level.”

The Good One Person Can Do

Joe Bowcutt lived in St George for most of his adult life and served on the city council for several years. He later worked for Stout in his mortgage business after serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. 

“Joe was involved in so many things,” continued Stout. “He was involved is so many different organizations and always behind the scenes. Making sure everything came off well.”

Because of his unselfish service, Steve Stout and Kevin Fry decided to continue his legacy by founding a non-profit organization named "Love Like Joe" to raise money for the charities Bowcutt was involved with.  

The 5th Annual Guild Mortgage Love Like Joe Golf Tournament is one of the fundraisers. It will take place October 11 at Sunbrook Golf Course. Last year they raised over $50,000 that went to Root For Kids, Neighborhood Connection, Switchpoint, Habitat for Humanity and the Make A Wish Foundation.

I think Joe Bowcutt would be proud of the legacy of giving that this charitable organization continues in his name. “It’s more than just Joe, but it’s synonymous with Joe,” said Stout.
