Helpful Activity Will Empower Utahns Seeking More Meaning
What Used to Entertain Us, Doesn’t Do It Anymore
You may have found what you used to do in your down time is not as satisfying as it once was. This may include watching your favorite series or scrolling your favorite content on the internet. Purchasing new things doesn’t seem as exciting and only increases the feeling that something is missing.
There are many people talking about this disconnect and they say it is because we have become disillusioned with what we consume. Basically, we are used to entertaining ourselves by watching media, shopping for things, and eating.
Thanks to the recent pandemic, we have started to realize there is a hole here that these activities aren’t filling. It leaves us more empty than less. They say the reason is we have gotten out of balance with too much focus on consuming.
Advertising convinces us there are things we didn’t know we needed and now must have. Influencers dangle perfect lives on social media that make us think we are missing something. It fuels this constant desire to consume.
Create Something to Gain More Balance
There are many blogs and websites giving answers to this in different ideas and forms. Many revolve around creating more and consuming less. The idea is that we all have a desire to contribute, to make something beneficial, to leave a legacy. Putting effort into creating something is fulfilling.

Since then, I have spent some time each day creating something. I built a garden area, updated a bathroom, even wrote a book. I discovered that if I spend some time each day creating something, my life stayed more in balance. It might sound kind of mystical, but if you find your life lacking, try creating something.
