The table starts to vibrate ever so slightly, you think it is in your head until you see your drink disturbed in it's clear cup. You feel as much as hear a noise building as the power moves toward you. You are in an earthquake. Practicing from when you were a child in school kicks in and you scramble under the table for protection.

As the rooms starts to seemingly animate itself you remember that you need to hold on to something. Thankfully the table is secured to the floor so you grab the support with your spouse who has joined you under the table. You scan the room silently wishing you were able to get a video of this crazy moment.

Earthquake in Turkey and Activity Closer to Home

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake just shook the area in Turkey leaving wounded and shaken citizens in its wake. Dave noted earthquake activity in Idaho with its seismic activity. Possibly these events could be reminding us to get ready.

Prepare for an Earthquake

In the Utah Nevada we are not immune to earthquakes. So this might be a good time to take inventory on how we are doing?

The first and probably most important part of the plan is your personal preparation. Have you run an earthquake drill recently? Experts suggest you at least run through a mental safety plan and you should figure out how you would react at home, work, church or anywhere you might routinely visit.

You should also know that our area is moderately prepared. Our building codes have been updated, but as you know that will take time to upgrade our buildings. There has been a strong effort to make simple improvements like securing a water heater have swept our area. So take some time to prepare how you would react and lets at least let the earthquake activity remind us to be earthquake ready.
