There are many fad diets out there. Some of the more popular ones are the ketogenic diet, alkaline diet and the clean eating diet. Then there is the old favorites like Weight Watchers, protein powder and getting rid of meat and going vegan.

LA-Story.com looked at Google searches to see what each state in the country was looking for when it comes to fad diets.

Idaho has been looking at information on intermittent fasting. California and Texas are curious about the alkaline diet. Arizona and New Mexico are checking out the blood type diet, whatever that is.

So, what is the fad diet Utah is interested in? The beehive state has been searching for info on the gluten-free diet. That doesn’t surprise me at all.

Here’s the definition from the Mayo Clinic:

A gluten-free diet is an eating plan that excludes foods containing gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and triticale (a cross between wheat and rye).

Getting gluten out of your diet is a way to avoid celiac disease, but some people just don’t want gluten at all. I have met several people in Utah who are interested in this.

Here’s some information on the blood type diet. We have different blood types depending on the antigens which are molecular structures on our red blood cells. Some researchers think you may not be losing weight because you are not eating the food that fits your blood.

Basically, the blood type came about due to the environment at the time and if you eat food from that era, your body can handle it better. You can find a lot more here. If enough of us go looking up this information, next year, Utah will have a new fad diet.
