Your Nevada Dishwasher Is Secretly A Kitchen Storage Hero
The Dishwasher: My Most Underrated Storage Unit
At some point in adulthood — probably around the time I realized I owned more mugs than friends — I had a revelation. A spiritual awakening, really. I discovered that the dishwasher is not just a machine that cleans dishes. It is also a machine that holds dishes. And sometimes, that second job is the more important one.
Sometimes I am stuck between the decision between doing a small dish washing load or letting them pile up.
The Unsung Hero
Enter: the dishwasher.
A stainless‑steel sanctuary.
A temporary retirement home for dishes I’m not emotionally prepared to deal with.
There was a day — a Tuesday evening, because of course it was — when I stared at the days' worth of dishes, not enough to do a load, but more than I wanted to wash by hand. The revelation hit me, a quick rinse and they could be stowed out of site in the dishwasher. And not just the dirties, you can let the clean ones sit, not out of laziness, but out of responsible procrastination: Why rush them back into circulation? Why not let them camp out for a while, like little ceramic vacationers?
An Appliance and a Friend
The dishwasher doesn’t judge. It doesn’t sigh when I stack bowls like a Jenga tower. It doesn’t complain when I leave dishes inside for a day or three. It just holds them, patiently, like a loyal friend who understands that sometimes the real luxury isn’t a spotless kitchen — it’s postponing one more task.

So yes, I use my dishwasher as storage. Proudly. Strategically. Joyfully.
Because sometimes the cupboards need a break.
Sometimes I need a break.
And sometimes the greatest gift you can give yourself is the permission to let your dishes hang out in their happy place a little longer.
