If the smell of wet socks is drifting through your home and making your eyes water, you might have a problem growing in your walls. Of course, it could also be your teenager with his pile of unwashed clothes in the corner.

Unresolved Problems with Breathing

Mold grows in damp areas. If you have a shower leaking behind the wall or the floor under the kitchen tile is always damp it can cause mold to grow. As the spores are carried in the air and cause breathing problems for people and pets.

Chronic symptoms of headaches, irritation in the throat and eyes, and constant sneezing might be a result of mold. It can even cause asthma in people who have never had it before.

Detecting Mold in Your Home

You may recognize dark spots on your drywall. If the wall is spongey to the touch or if  the surface is peeling there may be water and mold behind the wall. You can have the air tested, but that isn't always necessary. If there is mold, it needs to go.

There are professionals who can come in and remove the drywall or flooring and repair what is leaking. Depending on how big the problem is, this may be the route you will want to go.
