I love food from Central America, and I had no idea Tias Restaurant on Sunset was providing it. Papusas are like a warm blanket of goodness in the form of food. Tias serves up dishes from El Salvador as well as other items on their menu. Papusas are one of these tasty dishes.

It’s like a pancake with cheese and meat inside. I got the loaded version with tomatoes, lettuce and a fried egg. It was yummy, but I think I enjoyed the simple pork and cheese papusa just as much. I picked it up and dipped it in a smooth salsa. I could taste the cheese and pork with the fried batter. It was filling and delicious. At just $3.86 they are also affordable.

I enjoyed the tacos that are not as spicy as the Mexican version and the meat has the more roasted taste from El Salvador.

I want to go back and try the tamales and loaded nachos. The nachos come in different sizes depending on how hungry you are. And you can’t do Central American cuisine without trying the Platano plates. I plan on making time for these.

I have to give a shout out to the Agua fresca drinks. They were really good and the El Salvadoran horchata was more chocolatey and excellent.

Tias offers breakfast on the weekends and also includes a bakery. If you would like to try it at a discount, they are part of Seize the Deal next week. Go to SeizeTheDeal.com where you will find local restaurants offering gift cards at half price.

Papusas are the comfort food you didn’t know you needed. Take a minute and try Tias on Sunset Blvd. in St. George.
