The United States has the Largest Homes 

It is probably not a surprise to you that the average home size in the U.S. is bigger than the average in Europe. In fact, it is about double. The average home in Europe being about 1000 square feet and in the U.S., it is double that at 2,014 square feet. 

However, the United States is not the country with the biggest homes. That title goes to Australia with an average square footage of 2,032.

This isn’t too surprising as most of the cities and therefore the homes in Europe were built a long time ago. As prosperity has grown, the size of homes has increased, and you can see that played out in the United States and Australia. 

What State has the Largest Homes? 

This I did not see coming. The state with the largest homes is Utah with an average of 2,800 square feet. Just behind the beehive state is Colorado at 2,464 and then Idaho with an average home of 2,311 square feet. 

That means Utah not only leads the nation for the largest homes, Utah leads the world. The average size is larger than even Australia.

Why does Utah have such big homes? Is it because of the big families or is it because there seems to be a lot of room? Maybe it's all the basements that are in the process of getting finished.

Money Talks notes in their article that many have moved to Utah from states with a higher cost of living and therefore were able to get more for their dollar. 

Delaware Wants to Visit 

The smallest homes are in Delaware with an average of 1,490 square feet. They might as well come visit the beehive state, there is plenty of room. For that matter, England has an average of 818 square feet in their country. They might get lost in the average Utah home.
